Nick Beaudoin has got what he has
asked for. A chance to compete in the
grueling Sydney to Hobart Race this boxing day. Nick will sail on the
modified Jones, Volvo 70, called Ishi Ban. He has been a member of the
crew for the past 10 months, competing in 3 other offshore events
totalling some 1500 plus offshore miles. Nick will be the North Sails,
sails representative and duties will include being a head sail trimmer
in addition to inspecting and repairing all sails on board and
preparing them for their next set in the pit. Ishi Ban has seen 33
Knots ( 61 kilometers ) on the Brisbane to Gladstone Race earlier in
the year. Her skipper Matt Allen is currently the Cruising Club of
Australia's Commodore and is competing in his 18th S/H. All competing
yachts will have transponders onboard and their current position,

Some race facts:
Distance: 632 NM.
Course: Start in Sydney Harbor leaving the South Heads and an
offshore turning mark to starboard then south along Australia's
eastern seaboard, crossing the
Bass Straits and into the Tasman Sea entering Storm Bay then the
final push of 40 miles up the Derwent River to finish in Hobart,
Tasmania.
Date: December 26, Boxing Day 1:00 pm Australian Time or 9:00 pm
December 25 our local time.
Entrants: Yachts from the UK, USA, Mexico, New Zealand, Tasmania and
Australia bring the entry list to 82. The entry list includes 30 meter
Super Maxis, Volvo 60's and 70's, Farr and Transpac 65's, TP 52's
and a couple Cookson 50's.
